On November 15, our board was used in the Ryuo Title between Ryuoh Sota Fujii and Yuuki Sasaki 8-dan at Onikuru, Ibaraki City, Osaka Prefecture.
The Ryuo Tournament is a relatively new tournament, founded in 1988, which has its roots in the former Jyu-dan Tournament, but it is now attracting attention as one of the highest Shogi titles in the world. In the wake of the recent Shogi boom, many municipalities and hotels have come forward to host the tournament, and Ibaraki City's decision to host the tournament was based on the city's symbolic “Ryuozan” (Mt. Ryuo) and its desire to convey the charm of the region to the rest of the country.
We are very pleased that the Shogi world has an important opportunity to collaborate with local communities and contribute to the development of all regions of Japan.
The log was obtained through a bidding process at the Miyazaki City National Forest. It is a well behaved and perfect top and bottom quarter-sawn. The board is thick enough, and the top surface is quiet and wonderful, exactly the kind of board preferred for title games. Tenchimasa board with such a thick is very rare these days.
