　Heaped pieces are the pinnacle of Shogi pieces, and it is a common practice to use them in title games. Please take a look at the works of some of Japan's leading masters such as Kikusui and his son Tosui, Fugetsu and Kumazawa Ryoson.

Mikura Tsuge straight grained Heaped pieces

　This is a work that was given to me decades ago from Ippei in Tendo. Kyutoku was the one who enlivened the lacquer, and I liked this piece because of the wonderful brush stroke of Minase. The wood is an attractive old wood and candy-colored. This is a new, unused piece that has been stored in our shop. It is an old piece, so each peace is slightly smaller.

　Elegant white tiger striped wood. There is glitter pattern on entire wood. Tosui's work is also impeccable, and use of lacquer is excellent, and elegance is outstanding in how to heap lacquer. The more you use it, the darker amber color and the clearer pattern.

　This is Shinpitsu style Kinki. Compared to other styles, this typeface is slightly bolder and has been well received, and is the most popular among Tosui's styles. The use of lacquer is smooth and fluid. I am particularly fond of this Kinki and Minase, which have an orthodox finish. They are graceful yet powerful pieces.
　We were very careful about the wood, and used one set of the finest from the more than 2,000 pieces of Satsuma wood we purchased last year.

　Genbe-Kiyoyasu is said to be the most suitable for Shogi pieces, but recently it has become as popular as the three most popular typefaces. Fugetsu's technique has also been perfected, using a special wood base with a reddish color. The reddish part of the root was selected for this gorgeous piece.

　Two new sets of heaped pieces by Fugetsu. They are Kinki and lower Ryoko, just finished in July, and are the most exclusive pieces you can find. Both pieces are made of Mikura tsuge, a rare wood from which only a few pieces can be obtained from a single tree. The dark-colored root wood with powerful bold Kinki. The brush storoke and finishing are all to the owner's liking, and the easy-to-use chamfering is also a first-rate job that takes a lot of time and effort.
