There are various materials for Go bowls such as mulberry, black persimmon, cherry blossom, and zelkova, but mulberry has been considered the best.
Mulberry from the Izu archipelago is called island mulberry, and those from the inland are called inland mulberries. Among them, mulberries from Mikura-jima (one of the islands of the Izu archipelago) are characterized by their unique iridescent glow, probably because they are not affected by volcanic ash. So, it is considered to be the finest material for mulberry.
Currently, both Mikura mulberries and Hyuga clams (used for white Go stone) have become rare material that is rarely seen, but I still want to use bowls that are suitable for valuable stones.
